World Car Free Day
Take the challenge!
Set an example for others!
Leave the car at home!
The World Car Free Day in Poland has been celebrated since 2004, as a part of the European Mobility Week. On this day, drivers are encouraged not to use cars. They are otherwise promoted and motivated to use public transport or bicycles.
This holiday is to be there for supporting pro-ecological behavior and decreasing the amount of exhaust fumes produced by millions of cars moving around cities. Many city-centers are closed to car traffic, and drivers who have their vehicle registration cards with them can use public transport free of charge. The World Car Free Day aims to promote pro-ecological behavior and inform about the negative effects of car use.It helps to persuade people to use alternative means of transport and shows that it is possible to get by without a car. In addition, the initiative aims to enable residents to get to know the city they live, without street noise and burdensome car traffic.
